~ Faux Foodie Failsafe BBQ Sauce and WIN a Silpat Baking Mat!
Earlier this week I shared with you part of my food “journey” (I hate that word!) with my fake brisket in the slow cooker.
One of the things I’m really missing being on my failsafe diet is sauce! I have already introduced a pear, maple and poppyseed dressing as well as making my own “aioli” with greek yogurt, citric acid and plenty of salt and pepper, but I miss ketchup and bbq sauce!
Thank goodness for a website I came across called Cooking for Oscar which has information and a number of Failsafe recipes that have been extremely helpful. There’s even a ready made shopping list that while not completely suited to my multiple food intolerance issues, is a good guide!
This recipe is a saviour and tasted absolutely delicious on my pulled beef sandwiches I’ve been munching on all week. If you can’t tolerate tomato, this is the sauce for you.
Also, don’t forget to enter the Silpat giveaway as it will be over before you know it (tomorrow)
Faux Foodie BBQ Sauce
Recipe from Cooking for Oscar
1 jar organic kidney beans or bean mix (drained and rinsed)
2 large Pear halves (approximately 150g) or pears in juice
1 cup Water
1 teaspoon Citric Acid
1/4 cup Natvia
1 tsp Salt
3 sticks Celery (trimmed and chopped)
10 Safron threads (soaked in a bit of water)
Place all the ingredients into a saucepan on low heat. Cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes until everything is cooked.
Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly. Then pour into a food processor and blend until very smooth.
Return the sauce to the saucepan. If the sauce is a bit thick add some more water. Allow to simmer for 15 minutes
Serve and store leftovers in a squeeze bottle or jar for up to 2 weeks.
