Road Test Tuesday – PureBred Multigrain Gluten Free/Wheat Free Loaf……

I think I’m in love.   There.   I said it.

Ok, I don’t know about other gluten free people, but I am always a bit sceptical when I see new bread products in the grocery store.   After decades of horrible housebrick bread one choice in a loaf, it is heartening to see so many choices.

But, testing these bread products is often an expensive and disheartening exercise.   I really do like to make my own bread but it doesn’t rate high on my priorities. I just don’t eat enough of it to justify making an entire loaf.   Yes, I know I can freeze it but when I freeze bread I tend to get caught up in all the other things I want to make and by the time I think about it again it is frosty and inedible.

So when I saw the new PureBred products I thought the ½ size loaf would be perfect for me to try PLUS when I flipped the loaf and worked out the Weight Watchers Pro Points value I knew it was coming home with me.   The varieties are only available at Coles and the ½ loaf comes in white and multigrain.

White gluten free bread is pretty easy to come by so I grabbed the multigrain and headed home.   Opening the package, the bread certainly had a good aroma and texture and I was keen to try it as a sandwich and not toast it.  Most gluten free breads are fine as toast but the sandwich test is the real measure of success.   What better way to test than with the good old peanut butter and strawberry jam! (PB&J is my favourite!)

Celiac’s rejoice as this bread is by far the best store bought gluten free bread I have tasted in nearly two decades of trying to find a good sandwich loaf.   See how happy I am!

You can find the two types of bread and two types of long roles at Coles supermarkets.   You can also find PureBred on Facebook.

PureBred Gluten Free Multigrain Loaf verdict – 9/10 because nothing is perfect but this is pretty darn good!

I’m a fellow Coeliac. I’ve just recently ‘found’ this loaf and I love it too – like you say it’s so nice to have some bread you can enjoy without toasting!
It has to be said, the revamped Country Life is also really good too. A bit more fragile as a loaf, partly as the loaf is bigger so the larger slices fall apart more easily. Worth a try for those who prefer a milder tasting loaf – the PureBred multigrain is quite a malty tasting bread – almost like what I remember rye bread tasting like.
What I really want now is a GF loaf that doesn’t have egg in it. I’m nominally vegan but I have to ‘cheat’ to be able to eat store-bought GF bread.

I have tried the multigrain one and loved it – as toast and as a sandwich..sitting with the white bread one and it tastes ok, but prefer the multigrain. I am excited as it has no soy flour rubbish in it…

  6. sandra woodham says:

I have tried the multrigrain rolls and they are great. More like the taste of “normal” bread. At least now we can have a salad roll!!

  7. GK says:

I couldn’t find the loaf anywhere!(sold out or not stocked) But found the rolls and I agree, they are terrific, just like the real thing!! Thanks for the intro Lisa :-)
